Henry Maurer (1868-1932) was an American modernist painter who is known for his vibrant and expressive still lifes, portraits, and landscapes. Maurer was born in New York City and began his artistic training at the National Academy of Design. In 1897, he moved to Paris, where he studied at the Académie Julian and was exposed to the latest trends in European art. Maurer was particularly influenced by the Fauvist movement, and his paintings from this period are characterized by their bright colors and energetic brushstrokes.
In 1914, Maurer returned to New York City, where he continued to develop his unique style. He experimented with Cubism and Abstractionism, and his work became increasingly experimental and abstract in the 1920s.
