About the Artwork
Charles Dessalines D'Orbigny was a French naturalist, botanist, and geologist who is best known for his meticulously detailed and scientifically accurate illustrations of plants and animals. His work on the "Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle", a three-volume encyclopedia of natural history, is considered a masterpiece of scientific illustration. D'Orbigny's illustrations are not only scientifically accurate, but they are also visually engaging and often quite beautiful. His work has helped to shape our understanding of the natural world and continues to inspire artists and scientists alike. Original illustration appeard in the 1892 edition of "Dictionnaire Universel D'histoire Naturelle".
