About the Artwork
“Orbis terrae compendiosa descriptio : quam ex magna universali Gerardi Mercatoris Domino Richardo Gartho, geographie ac ceterarum bonarum artium amatori ac fautori summo (1637)” is a world map created by Gerhard Mercator in 1637. The map is highly detailed with intricate designs, showcasing continents, countries, oceans, and seas. Each continent is outlined and filled with different colors to distinguish them from each other. The border of the map is adorned with an ornate design in gold color adding an aesthetic touch to it. There are lines crisscrossing across the oceans indicating either trade routes or lines of latitude and longitude. As a print, it promises not just an aesthetic upgrade to your space but an intellectual one too - a constant reminder of our world’s expansive history and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead.
