Henri Rousseau, a French painter and expert printmaker, created “Charenton-le-Pont” in 1910 while still in Paris. The composition features a human figure with a basket in the foreground, surrounded by lush green vegetation. The right edge of the painting is adorned with trees, while the middle section showcases the Charenton Bridge spanning a river. In the distance, a cityscape emerges. The sky above displays various cloud formations, hinting at an impending heavy rainfall. Rousseau’s unique style, characterized by self-taught techniques and keen attention to detail, sets this artwork apart. His sensitive observation of colors creates a distinct atmosphere and mood. Despite his lack of formal training, Rousseau’s imaginative approach influenced other artists, including Pablo Picasso.
